Faux Snakeskin Serving Tray

Using a pine tray in conjunction with the items on the left, I have created an elegant piece to suit any room.

The items are; faux snakeskin place mat, some sticks from a matchstick roller blind, no more nails glue, tremclad gloss black paint, scissors, a plastic scraper and finally some floor protector felt.

1) As usual, the first step is to prime (I didn't prime the base). When that's dry, paint 2 coats of finish colour and allow to dry.

I chose a high gloss black by Tremclad because it matches my decor.

2) Cut the place mat to fit the inside frame of the tray.

3) Glue into place with no more nails glue. Pushing out all the bubbles as you go with the plastic scraper.

4) Cut 4 sticks to the length of the tray.
Now cut 4 more to the width of the tray,(keeping in mind the width of the sticks laying lengthwise when you cut these).

You want to do a dry fit at this point just to make sure everything is as it should be.  Making any adjustments needed before gluing.

5) Glue the sticks to the perimeter of the snakeskin mat (using 2 sticks side-by-side), thereby concealing any raw edges from view.

6) Once the glue has dried, they are ready to be painted. Using a fine paintbrush, paint them black.

7) We are almost done! The last step is to apply some felt to the bottom, this will make it easier to move around and not scrape your table top.

Here are the finished project photos.

This is a small, simple way to make a personal statement in your home.

Happy crafting, and I'll see you next time.

Bye for now.
