For A Great Cause...

On Thursday, July 19th...I received an interesting email.

Here it is...

Hi, Lyann.
My name is Mary Beth Gibson, and I am the Executive Director of a non-profit organization in the U.S. that supports young women with breast cancer.  You can visit our website at www.beyondboobs.org to learn more, if you want.

Anyway, we are in the process of creating our sixth calendar of young breast cancer survivors, and the theme this year is an artistic one.
Our graphic designer loves the palette you designed for your blog and really wants to use it in our calendar.  We print 10,000 copies of the calendar, and it is fundraiser for us.

We would be very honored if you granted us permission to use the palette.
I should let you know that despite what the name of our organization may suggest, our calendar is very tasteful.  There is no nudity or suggested nudity.

I eagerly await your response.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you for considering our request.

P.S.  I visited Nova Scotia the year prior to my breast cancer diagnosis.  I LOVED IT!!!!

Well, I felt extremely honored...I was like, WOW!

Naturally, I called my husband at work to tell him.
He said, "Wow! You should email her back and say YES right away!"

I started to laugh, and said,  "I already did!"

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a commercial artist...and this request, not only is it a great cause...it's awesome that they saw MY GRAPHIC and thought it was good enough to use in the Calendar to Live By.

Here is my response...

Hello Mary Beth,

What an honor to be asked, I would absolutely love that!

I do however have two stipulations:
1)  I would ask that the image appear exactly as it is drawn without alteration (my name is on the paintbrushes).
2) Also, for my portfolio,  I would like to be sent a copy of the calendar (with a letter of recognition for my contribution) when it is published.

Please let me know if this is acceptable.

Then Mary Beth answered...

Yippeee!!!!  Thanks for that super fast response.

Yes, Tracie, the graphic designer who found the palette, and who is copied on this email, will replicate the palette exactly as you designed it, with your names on the brushes.

We would be very happy to send you the calendar after it is unveiled to the public in September, and a letter as well.

Thanks so much, Lyann!!  Have a wonderful day.

Then Tracie Hawks www.treystoneinc.com, the designer, contacted me to get the paint palette graphic in full colour...the one on the blog is actually semi transparent.

Then the waiting began...

Then, on Thursday, November 15th...at 6:45 am...my husband checked the mail box on his way out.

I received a personal letter from Mary Beth, and a copy of the Calendar To Live By & Guide (this is where my graphic was used (TWICE!!!) ha ha ha!

Here are the photos...

Here, you can see where my graphic was used...

A close up view...Isn't that AWESOME?

Sorry the pictures aren't the best, I tried to take them at 6:45 am...I discovered that I'm not that alert at that time of the morning...ha ha ha!  I will take new images and replace these ones soon.

I was so happy to see the finished product...it looks GREAT!!!!
Thank you Mary Beth and Tracie for the wonderful opportunity.
